There are a few types of Doppler radar such as the National Weather Service NEXRAD Doppler radars and portable Doppler radars which can be mounted on a truck. Storm chasers are able to see tornadoes in the dark primarily by using Doppler radar technology. HOW can storm chasers see tornados in the dark? We are having a lot of tornados this season especially over night. If you want to conquer your fear and not just live with it, make yourself go out for short periods in the storm (or even an upper level of your house, at first.) Soon, you'll be dancing in the rain! =] Good luck, and remember, tons of people are afraid of the same things as you, and leading a normal life! Being with someone else (a parent, sibling, dog, cat) who is calm will also help to calm you, so, if possible, don't be alone. LIsten to music, watch TV, read, help your parents. As for storms, do something to take your mind off of it. That always helped me when I was younger, because I knew if there were something, my dog would take care of it. Also, if you have a dog sleep with him or her in your room. In addition, you can sleep with a flashlight or small lamp near your bed to turn on if you become afraid. That'll give you just enough light in your room. Inside, sleep with a curtain open (for moonlight) or a night light.

Animals don't want to hurt you, so if you make lots of noise and they know beforehand that you are there, they won't be startled and attack you. When you have to go outside at night (creeps me out like none other, too!) take a flashlight and make a lot of noise.

Last year, about half of my english class (all about 15y/o) were scared of the dark still. Also, many people (older than you even) are afraid of both of those things. Be glad that you aren't afraid of spoons or something. I live on a farm and I'm always afraid to go ouside after dark because I'm always afraidįirst of all, your fears are both very rational.

I'm not really afraid of the dark itself but more so going outside in the dark.
